New Nonprofit Cancer Foundation Forms to Bolster Services in Las Vegas
By Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada
September 7, 2005

Las Vegas --

Medical, pediatric and radiation oncologists from Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada have formed a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit foundation to expand services to patients with cancer in the Las Vegas Valley.

Comprehensive Cancer Centers Foundation (CCCF) will make integrative medicine, alternative therapies, and supportive care services available free of charge to all cancer patients in Southern Nevada who are in active treatment. The Foundation will also pursue non-pharmaceutical research studies of integrative therapies, herbology and botanicals.

“Many of the doctors in the foundation are part of the Southern Nevada community, raising their families and treating their patients for at least 20 years,” said Jackie Tschernia, foundation president. “The doctors started this nonprofit foundation to meet the needs of cancer patients, their families, friends and the community-at-large.”

In addition to providing care, the Foundation plans to raise awareness about integrative medicine and therapies by providing printed materials, hosting health fairs, and promoting its Web site (LIST). It will also provide periodic educational seminars about various therapies including reflexology, acupuncture, massage, music, art and sound therapy, guided imagery, yoga, aromatherapy, and nutrition.

“We want to empower our patients so they can manage their health and be active participants in their treatments,” Tscherina said. “By using integrative medicine, we can alleviate stress, reduce pain and better manage their symptoms. This approach will enhance our patient’s well-being, happiness and quality of life.”

The CCCF co-sponsored the Oncology On Canvas exhibit at the Fashion Show Mall, which showcased more than 200 works of art from women, family members or caregivers in 27 countries who are affected by cancer.
